Charlie was born in Belgium to Scottish and English parents. He spent his formative years in Belgium, Switzerland, and England before moving to the United States in 1984.

Charlie went to work for O'Shaughnessy Realty, the forerunner of Carolina One Real Estate in 1989, and has consistently been recognized as a Top Producer with the company. He attributes his phenomenal track record of well over $300,000,000 in closed sales to an ethic of hard work, constant personal communication with his clients, in depth local market knowledge and professional integrity.

Charlie's multicultural background allows him to serve clients on a global scale. With extensive market knowledge and financial expertise, he is also able to offer his international clientele his services in both French and German.

Charlie is married to well known local artist Janie Ball. Charlie and Janie raised their children while living at the beach on the Isle of Palms and on Sullivan's Island. In 2024 they opted for a change of scenery and they have moved to be on the waterfront on the Wando River.
